Associate Professor/Assistant Professor

Applications are invited for appointments as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, from July 1, 2013, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with consideration for tenure after satisfactory completion of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Department offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. The B.Eng. programmes comprise Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering (jointly with the Department of Computer Science). The Department consists of 50 full-time teaching staff and has excellent computing resources, well-equipped teaching and research facilities and support. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering or a closely related field, with a strong commitment to research and teaching. A solid track record in research is essential. The positions are open to all research areas in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with preference given to those in the area of robotics, telecommunications, computer engineering and software engineering.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.

Research Associate/Post-doctoral Fellow

Requirements

  1. An Mphil or PhD degree in Social Science, preferrably with a specific focus on environmental sociology or psychology, or in Environmental Policy in the area of energy risk governance
  2. Experience in conducting public opinion surveys
  3. Experience in organizing and conducting focus group meetings (preferred but not a must)
  4. Good journal publications record (preferred but not a must)
  5. Good command of SPSS
  6. Be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently

Duties

  1. Assist in designing public opinion surveys investigating on the topic of stakeholder trust in nuclear safety governance
  2. Organize and conduct focus group meetings
  3. Collect data, conduct SPSS analysis and assist in report writing

Background

Successful applicant will involve in a 4-year interdisciplinary project, funded by the Research Grants Council-Strategic Public Policy Research scheme, titled "Effective Nuclear Safety Governance in Hong Kong and Guangdong China: A stakeholder trust-based model". Our project involves top-tier academic researchers spanning across faculties of social science, science, architecture, engineering, and medicine in HKU.  Those who are experienced and interested in conducting innovative, interdisciplinary research are encouraged to apply.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Applications are invited for appointments as Post-doctoral Fellow (PDF) in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Appointments will be made for a period of 2 to 3 years.

PDF posts are created specifically to bring new impetus and vigour to the University's research enterprise. Positions are available from time to time to meet the strategic research needs identified by the University. Positions are available in the following areas:

  1. Computational Imaging and Inverse Problems (Email to Dr. Edmund Lam)
  2. Optoelectronic device / Material Growth (Email to Dr Anthony Choi)

PDFs are expected to devote full-time to research. Applicants should be doctoral degree holders having undertaken original research that has contributed to the body of knowledge. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. Annual leave and medical/dental benefits will also be offered.
