Information Systems

Information Systems Research Group

An information system could be any computer or telecommunications system/equipment that is used in the acquisition, manipulation, processing, display, transmission, storage of voice and/or data. In summary, it is a system for the control and management of data and information. Information system research is the discipline concerned with the analysis, development, use, application and influence of information systems. The computer technology is typically used for implementing information systems.

The area of work related to information systems is therefore very diverse. In this Department at The University of Hong Kong, the researchers in this area have carried out work in many topics. They include computer vision for control and automation, defect detection, optical communications, stability study of dynamical systems, 3D reconstruction of object from a sequence of 2D images, the design of robust control systems and controllers in robotics, imaging processing, network performance study, and intelligent transportation systems.
