Alfred was born in Hong Kong in 1980 and had moved to Canada with his parents when he was ten.
After finishing high school in Calgary, he went on to pursue his undergraduate degree at the
University of Calgary.
In the spring of 2002, he received a B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering. Later on in the year,
he moved to Toronto to begin his graduate studies at the
University of Toronto.
There, he worked closely with
Prof. Richard Cobbold
and
Dr. Wayne Johnston
on some fundamental aspects of Doppler ultrasound.
He completed the degrees of M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering (biomedical stream)
at the end of 2003 and 2006 respectively.
In the summer of 2005, he worked as a research intern at Philips Research (Briarcliff).
During his stay at Philips, he was involved in developing new clinical applications of Doppler ultrasound.
Since January 2007, Alfred has joined at the
University of Hong Kong
to launch a new ultrasound research program within the
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
He is now a Research Assistant Professor in the department,
after working initally as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Honorary Assistant Professor.
