Objectives

This course will introduce the initiatives in different engineering disciplines on solving the problems caused by climate change. Students will learn various technologies in the areas of climate change observatory, solar energy, wind energy, nuclear energy, wave energy, electric vehicle and smart power grid through lectures, workshops and technical visits. Students from local, mainland and overseas will be mixed in this course for a cross cultural exchange. Technical visits to the environmental engineering facilities will be arranged so as to provide a clear picture to the students.

Objectives

It is an experiential learning trip to Shanghai, the financial center and most booming city of China; and it is also an exceptional opportunity for students from Mainland China, Hong Kong and overseas to exchange knowledge and ideas, and get a brief picture of entrepreneurship and innovation technology in China. Through interflow meetings, technical visits, seminars and discussion sessions, students can have a further and deeper understanding of innovation system and entrepreneurship environment in Shanghai, and share their views with different people. Professors from HKU and Shanghai will deliver lectures and successful entrepreneurs will share their experience. Moreover, various on-site visits will be arranged including Science Park, Science and Technology Museum, Knowledge and Innovation Community, etc. Before departure to Shanghai, students can get a chance to visit the Hong Kong Cyberport and to interflow on topic of innovation and entrepreneurship.

(including accommodation in Shanghai from July 17-21, meals, transportation, round-trip air ticket from Hong Kong to Shanghai)
