MS Outlook Express Mail Account Setup

If you have installed the latest version of Internet Explorer, version 4.0, then you will be using Outlook Express as your email program. There should be an icon on your desktop for Outlook Express. Please follow the instructions below for setup.

Setup Instructions:

  1. Double click the Outlook Express icon on your desktop.
  2. After the Outlook Express software loads, select the "Tools" menu then "Accounts".
  3. Click the "Add" button and select "Mail".
  4. Under "Display Name" type in your name.
  5. Click the "Next" button.
  6. In "Email Address" type in your email address, example -wywong@eee.hku.hk
  7. Click the "Next" button.

 

 

Setting up the Mail Server Information:

  1. In "My Incoming Mail Server", select "IMAP".
  2. Type imap4.eee.hku.hk as the Incoming Mail Server
  3. Type mail.eee.hku.hk as the Outgoing Mail Server
  4. Note: the mail.eee.hku.hk only works with the EEE network in Chow Yei Ching Building, if you're located outside, please refer to the Computer Center's Settings

  5. Click the "Next" button.
  6. Make sure there is a dot infront of "Logon Using".
  7. Pop Account Name - type in your Username for your unix account.
  8. Password - type in your Password (remember it is case sensitive).
  9. Internet Account Name - type in EEE
  10. Click the "Next" button.

 

Selecting a Connection Type:

  1. Make sure the dot is infront of "Connect using my local area network (LAN)".
  2. Click the "Next" button.
  3. Click the "Finish" button.

 

Configuring mail account properties:

  1. Double click the Outlook Express icon on your desktop.
  2. After the Outlook Express software loads, select the "Tools" menu then "Accounts".
  3. Click the "Mail" Tab and select the mail account "imap4.eee.hku.hk".and then click on the "Properties" button.
  4.  

  5. Select the "IMAP" tab and in "Root Folder path :", type in mail.
  6. Click the "OK" button.

When you want to check for new mail messages you will need to click the Send & Receive button on the Outlook Express Toolbar. You may want to check under the "Tools" menu and select "Options". You can set various options, such as, checking for messages automatically, sending automatically, etc.

 

 

Adding a "Purge Messages" buttons on toolbar :

  1. Double click the Outlook Express icon on your desktop.
  2. After the Outlook Express software loads, select the inbox on the imap4.eee.hku.hk
  3. Move the mouse pointer to the tool bar and right-click, then a pop up menu will appear.
  4. Select the "Purge Message" button and click "Add ->" button
  5. Then click the Close button and the "Purge Messages" button is added on the toolbar.
