Biography of the speaker:

  • Ms. Natalie Chew, “Female Student in EEE is very precious in 80’s.  As the only female graduate, Natalie joined a E&M Building Services consulting firm as an engineer trainee.  With the booming of Information Technology Industry, Natalie joined IBM as a Systems Engineer in 1989.  As a technical pre-sale support, Natalie gained not just technical know-how but experience in building customer relationship.  To broaden the exposure, Natalie went abroad to Canada to purse MBA specialise in marketing and international business.  Natalie re-joined IBM as the Sales Specialist in 1997.  Since then, Natalie held various sales position serving clients in Public Sector, Finance, Banking, Insurance and General Business locally and regionally.  Natalie also lived in Beijing for one year leading the Global Process Services team in IBM Greater China Group. Natalie relocated back to HK in 2013 leading IBM HK Marketing & Communications unit.  Currently Natalie is the sales leader in IBM responsible for selling Infrastructure Services to enterprises in HK.”
  • Ir Joseph Leung is the Director / Partner of J Roger Preston Limited, a M&E Consulting Engineering design practice in the Asia Pacific Region and PRC. He joined the practice immediately after his graduation in 1981.   Some landmark  M&E design projects successfully completed under his design leadership include CLK – Airport Master Planning , HK Club building , HKUST campus , IFC2  ( 88 -storey Tower) , IFC Mall , Four Seasons Hotel, One Peking , HKHA HQ , HKSAR Tamar HQ, and many other high rise residential projects . He has been serving the HKIE  for over 20 years as member of various boards and committees including the Council, Executive Committee and the Engineering Registration Board, to name a few. He was also the appointed chairman of the HKSAR Electrical Safety Advisory Committee for 6 years and appointed as a lay person by the Court of Justice  serving the Solicitor Discipline Tribunal Panel  for 6 years.
  • Ir T.K. Chiang is the Chief Operating Officer of CLP Power. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Hong Kong, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic and a Master of Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He joined CLP Power as a Graduate Trainee in 1988. He has extensive experience in generation, transmission and distribution systems as well as regulatory strategy. He had held various posts in different functional areas ranging from power system asset management, planning, design, operation and maintenance, power quality, and corporate and regulatory strategy. He has been serving in various professional institutions and community organisation including The Institution of Engineering and Technology, The HKIE of Engineers and the Community Chest.

EEE alumni and distinguished guests speak on Engineering Entrepreneurship – The Importance of Being Entrepreneurial

The panel consists of accomplished entrepreneurs who have developed insights over Many years of working in a rapidly changing world. Business success often hinges on the ability to envision changes, and harness such changes to create competitive differentiation or strategic advantage. In particular, the technology business is driving changes which are as disruptive as they are rapid.

In this panel the speakers will share the art and science of business leadership, and will deliver entrepreneurial wisdom and inspiration, applicable in start-ups as well as in established companies.

In addition, the panel will share observations about visionary business titans, and examine the traits and behaviour patterns which made them highly effective leaders over long periods of time.

Biographies of speakers:

Philip_LeungMr. Philip Leung
President, The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong

Mr. Philip Leung is an executive in technology and international market entry. He is President of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce. He is also advisor at Fenox Venture Capital, a Silicon-Valley firm, and Sancus Technology Partners, a firm investing in global technology opportunities; and Founding President PRD Chapter at AAMA, Silicon Valley’s largest organization for Asian-American high-tech professionals. He is a frequent speaker and thought leader on driving social and economic progress through innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.

Mr. Leung worked as CEO or founder at various companies such as Commence Technology Partners, Compaq Computer (East Asia), SGI (Asia), Chinese Books Cyberstore, Vtech (USA) and AMD (Taiwan). He founded the China Affairs Group at AmCham, where he created a highly successful annual China Conference for an international business audience, and a Briefing Program serving Chinese companies expanding globally.

He holds an MBA from Harvard University, and a BSc in engineering from HKU.  He has lived in various cities in Asia and the US, including 12 years in Silicon Valley.


John_MilersMr. John Miers 
Black Isle Group

Throughout a varied and challenging career in the Royal Navy, in which he rose to submarine command, John developed an incredible understanding of human communication.

Frequently a Royal Navy media spokesman and having been part of the production team during a major TV series, John founded Black Isle in 1990 in order to share his experiences and understanding of effective communication within a business environment.

This highly individual and successful approach has allowed John to expand Black Isle across four continents and to seven offices around the world. As well as coaching numerous politicians in Asia, North America and Europe, John has helped many senior lawyers, executives and public figures perform more effectively in high profile appointments.

In 2008 John produced a television series where he interviewed famous Canadian personalities to find out what they had learned in their lives, not just business but personal skills as well.

John has worked in Asia, based in Hong Kong since 1993.


Cheuk-Fei_ManMr. Cheuk-Fei Man

Mr. Cheuk-Fei Man graduated from the Department of Chinese, University of Hong Kong in 1987. During his study there, he actively participated in different student bodies. In 1986, he was elected the Internal Vice-President of the Students’ Union. From 1988 to 1991, he was Tutor of Old Halls.

From 1990 he started his journalistic career. He first joined Next Magazine as political reporter. Later he became the founding Editor-in-Chief of Teacher Plus, a monthly magazine for Hong Kong educators. In 1992 he joined Hong Kong Economic Journal (HKEJ) as Editor/Writer of the Commentary section. In early 2000, he became Assistant Chief Editor. He was Chief Editor of HKEJ Monthly from 2001 to 2013. He launched Master Insight Media in Oct, 2014. He is Publisher & CEO of the media group.

In 1999 he obtained his M.Phil in Government & Public Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2000, he was granted both a Knight Fellowship from Stanford University, and a Nieman Fellowship from Harvard University. He finally decided upon spending the year at Stanford. In 2011-12, he received a scholarship to attend an EMBA media course at Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management.

Mr. Man has been serving as HKU’s Convocation Standing Committee Member and Court Member from 2003-2013, and Council Member since 2007. During his service at Council, he has been appointed Chairperson of the Discrimination Complaints Committee; and has served on the Grievances Panel for Staff, the Council’s Group to Hear Appeals of Disciplinary Committee Cases and the Committee for the Selection of Wardens and Hall Tutors. After the 818 incident in 2011, as a Council elected member, he joined the Review Panel on the Centenary Ceremony Held on August 18. A comprehensive report was published in February, 2012. He is a member of the Search Committee for the Dean of Dentistry starting from November, 2012. He is also an elected member of the Selection Committee for the next HKU Vice Chancellor in 2013.

His other social services include: President of Hong Kong University Graduates Association (HKUGA, 2006-2010); Vice President of HKUGA Education Foundation; Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Journalists; Member of the Advisory Committee on Communications and Public Affairs, PolyU; Advisory Committee Member, Chinese Department of Lingnan University; External Member of the Faculty Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Humanities, Hong Kong Institute of Education.

He has published 5 books and one coming soon.
