Abstract

Black phosphorous (phosphene) has become a research hotspot in the field of two-dimensional materials in recent years due to its adjustable direct band gap from visible light to mid-infrared, nonlinear optical effects, and operating bandwidth. In addition, its excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability have also attracted wide attention in interdisciplinary subjects such as biological/medical photonics. This talk will focus on key features of novel two-dimensional materials, mainly their applications in micro/nano photonic devices, all-optical signal processing, as well as black phosphorus based bio-photonics. Specifically, we will

  • Reveal the mechanism of nonlinear optical effects of two-dimensional materials, discuss new photonic devices such as all-optical modulators, all-optical switches, all-optical wavelength conversion, all-optical diodes based on multiple optical effects, and realize high-speed optical communication systems with microscale/nanoscale all-optical devices, which will provide new solutions for all-optical signal processing.
  • Introduce the high-efficiency photothermal, photodynamic, photoacoustic, fluorescence and other effects as well as their underlying mechanisms of two-dimensional black phosphorus, and discuss potential applications and latest research progress in biological/medical applications such as active targeted navigation, imaging diagnosis, laser thermal therapy, dynamic therapy, drug therapy, etc.

 

Biography of the speaker:

Prof. Han Zhang is a distinguished professor with the School of Optoelectronic Engineering at Shenzhen University. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, National Natural Science Foundation of China “Excellent Youth” fund awardee, and a highly cited scholar worldwide (2018-2020). His research interest is on low-dimensional material based optoelectronic devices and laser, which has won him the second prize of Natural Science of the Ministry of Education, the Ten Progresses of Chinese Optics, Guangdong Dingying Science and Technology Award, Shenzhen Youth Science and Technology Award, and Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Award. In recent years, more than 60 papers that Prof. Zhang serves as a contact author have been published in journals with an impact factor larger than 20. In addition, 110 papers that Prof. Zhang authored are highly cited ESI papers, which has attracted more than 46,000 citations and an h-index 120.
Prof. Zhang has supervised over more than 10 key research and development programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and key international cooperation projects. He is also an editorial board member of Photonics Research and the editor-in-chief of 7 SCI journals, the secretary-general of the China Laser Youth Editorial Committee, and the vice chairman of Shenzhen Chip Technology Promotion Association. In recent years, more than 10 students from Prof. Zhang’s group have pursued academic careers after graduation, including a Taishan Scholar, an assistant professor at Harvard University, a distinguished professor of Jiangsu Province, and an outstanding youth of Guangdong Province.
