Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected educational institutions worldwide. After a year of experimentation with remote instruction, institutions are now planning how engineering education can create versatile, sustainable and disruption-resilient learning opportunities in the new normal. In this webinar, we aim to empower engineering teachers to further integrate learning technologies and educational development practices, for enriching learning experiences in engineering curricula.

 

Autonomous Vehicle System Design Course during Remote Learning

In order to cultivate the expertise in developing autonomous vehicles (AVs) in the future, there is an emergence of courses on holistic AV system design for undergraduate engineering students. This presentation is about the design, implementation and evaluation of a cross-disciplinary AV system design course. Through the guided development, the developed course should facilitate students in developing a well-constructed and productive AV system, and cultivate students’ holistic engineering competencies (e.g.creativity, problem solving).

 

A Literature Review on Teaching and Learning Practices in Engineering and Computer Science During COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected educational institutions worldwide. After a year of experimentation, studies on COVID-19 teaching practices have been published to share their experience gained. In this presentation, we aim to share an overview of responsive remote teaching and learning practices in engineering education, with all review articles from studies published in IEEE and ACM conferences in late 2020. The discussion will include new pedagogical approaches and technologies used to facilitate remote education during the pandemic, and we also try to recognise valuable teaching practices and experiences for post-COVID education.

 

Quantum Computing Education via Quantum Technology Demonstration Kits

Quantum technology has already been associated with our daily life. Nevertheless, the modern higher education of quantum physics, mainly via “pen” and “paper”, makes it “opaque”. Therefore, a clear understanding of quantum mechanics, especially some real hands-on experiences with proper demonstration kits, is highly desired for university graduates who might enter this multibillion-dollar quantum industry. In this project, we aim to develop a teaching-oriented portable setup that allows students to acquire fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics.
