HKU was the pioneer in investigating the technical aspects on grid-connection of small renewable energy systems. Various experiments and pilot study were conducted at HKU before the Hong Kong Government published a set of technical guidelines on grid-connection. Also, a pilot project was funded by the ITC to install three different kinds of photovoltaic technologies at the S.K.H. Kei Wai (MaWan) Primary School. There is much experience built upon those pilot projects and study regarding the technical details of grid-connection of Renewable Energy (RE) systems. Although much of the information had been published, it was not well disseminated to the local engineers in a systematic way. With the imminent effect of feed-in-tariff in 2018, the number of grid-connect RE systems in Hong Kong is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, and hence the need to transfer the knowledge to community will be valuable to the industry and local community.

Organizer Biography:

Dr. K.H. LAM received his bachelor degree in Electrical Energy Systems Engineering from the University of Hong Kong in 1994. He worked in the Building Services industry after graduation and returned to the Alma Mater for joining the HKU Photovoltaic research team in 1998. His research focus is on Photovoltaic systems integration. In 2007, he received his PhD in Architecture at The University of Hong Kong and started working as a Senior Manager in a Solar Energy company. He was elected the Chairman (2008-2009) of the Hong Kong Photovoltaic Consortium. In May 2014, he was appointed as Lecturer by the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Hong Kong; and then Honorary Assistant Professor by the same department in February 2016.
