EEE students got excellent results in the “Go Green in the City” competition organized by Schneider Electric.
Miss Agnes Ka Yee WONG from BEng(EE) created the team Wheel-Power and won the Regional Third Prize of the Greater China region. Observed the power quality and grid stability problem bringing by the over-generated power of rooftop solar panels, she designed an energy redistribution system which can use up surplus power. Targeting at balancing the supply and demand while allowing the panels to generate most, the system would automatically schedule different levels of consumption activities within the user’s house and the neighboring community after collecting and predicting the supply and demand capacities at every instant.
Miss Kelly Zhaohan LU and Miss Yip Yan YEUNG from BEng (ElecE) created the team Victorious Secret and won the Regional Second Prize in the Greater China Regional Final competition. Aiming to improve the working condition of the underground garage staff, their design, named the “Design of Underground Garages with New-type Ventilation, Smoke Exhaust and Lighting system”, would provide an environmental-dependent control system for underground garage and tubular daylighting system with simultaneous transmission of both natural light and exhaust gas ventilation in a single tube.
“Go Green in the City” is a global energy management competition about electrical and environmental engineering. In the region of Greater China, over 2000 participants from Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR have submitted more than 470 proposals. Through 3 rounds of competitions, 10 teams were selected to enter the Regional Final. And the national top 10 teams of two were finally selected to participate in the Greater China Regional Final which was held in Beijing from 27th to 29th August 2018.
