Congratulations to PhD student Mr. Jian Linni for receiving the prestigious award. Linni joined the department in 2006 to work with Prof. K. T. Chau. His research area lies on electric drives and electric vehicles. In particular, he is now working on the development of coaxial magnetic gear and its application. Coaxial magnetic gear is a newly emerging device which can achieve non-contact torque transmission and speed adjustment by using the modulation effect of permanent magnetic fields. Linni’s current focus is on the theoretical analysis and optimum design of this type of device, as well as its applications in the electric vehicle motor drive and wind power generation system.
