What is Robocon?
ABU Robocon is an international robotics contest for undergraduates, where students design and build their robots from scratch. The topic changes from year to year with different hosting country.
e.g. 2019 is robot walking like horse and 2020 is robots playing rugby.
Who are we?
M2 Robocon Studio was founded in 2004, when the first Robocon was held. Now, it is renamed as “HKU Robocon Team”. We remain a group of students who are passionate in robotics design and development since 2004. We are the team representing HKU to fight with other universities annually with our robots.
We will move into the new facilities equipped in Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing soon.
Why should you join us?
HKU Robocon Team is your place if you are looking for:
- Hands-on experience
- Friends who shared same passion and fight for same goal
What will be offered in the briefing session?
- Chance to interact with our current members to find out more about our people.
- A detailed introduction to our team and information about the training.
- Virtual/Physical lab visit.
- Seeing a real robot moving around.
Q: Why are you called M2 in the class promotion?
A: HW-M02 was our old lab address; it has been renamed as “HKU Robocon” since September 2020 and we are going to design and make robots in the Innovation Wing around Oct 2020.
Q: I am not an engineering student; can I still join?
A: Yes, you can. We have students from various background. Only your attitude and interest are two major criteria for selecting team members.
Q: I am just a year1/2 and knowing nothing about robotics, can I join?
A: Yes, we provide training to every new member. No one should be expected to know everything when fresh start.
Q: Will there be screening?
A: Unfortunately, we have limited resources (e.g. room capacity and electronic/mechanical components cost) to provide training for everyone and each year we received overwhelming responds, so there will be screening on your answer on the recruitment form. No need to freak out, we mainly looking for your genuine interest in our team and your determination to fight for the contest with us.
Q: How do I know if I get accepted by your team?
A: We will send email to notify you and we will add you to the training WhatsApp group for communication. Please make sure you filled in the correct contact information in the recruitment form.
Q: I want to know more about your team, where can I find them?
A: Please attend our briefing session for more. You will get chance to interact with our current members.
