Sichuan Reconstruction Project

A team of teachers and students from the Faculty of Engineering is collaborating with the 512 Young Engineers Alliance (http://512youngengineers.hk/) to contribute in the reconstruction project for the Deyang City Primary School in Sichuan.

On 10 January 2009, Dr. Wilton Fok and a group of students from the Engineering Society HKUSU including Ng Ka Wai (CivE-Law2), Wan Mei Yin (CivE2), Chris Suen (LESCM2), Felix Lin (InfoE2), Yvonne Ieong (EComE2) and Yiu Chui Ming (CivE2), participated in the 512 Young Engineers Alliance tram exhibition and donation activity. The Legislative Councilors, Hon Ir Dr. Raymond Ho and Hon Ir Dr. Samson Tam, and senior government officials, Secretary for Development Mrs. Lam Cheng Yuet Ngor Carrie, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Mr. Lam Sui Lung Stephen, and Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) Mr. Mak Chai Kwong, were the guests of honor of the event.

Some EEE faculty members, including Dr. Wilton Fok, Dr. Edmund Lam, Dr. K.S. Lui and Dr. Vincent Tam, will coordinate and lead a team of engineering students to contribute their knowledge in e-communication, computer, information and electrical engineering to set up a number of multimedia classrooms, computer rooms and renewable energy solar panels in the reconstructed school. The school building is now being constructed and the team will travel to Sichuan to install the system when the building construction completes in this summer.
