Consultation on Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

EEE students are enthusiastic in social and environmental issues. In the recent public consultation on a New Producer responsibility Scheme for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) called by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) HKSAR, students in ELEC2803 Engineering and Society drafted a consultation response paper and was consolidated by the EEE Association HKUSA. Their views and response were presented to EPD on 27 April 2010.

The response covered the areas of licensing requirements, collection of WEEE separately for recycling, retailers offer consumers mandatory take-back services, permit controls, Fee arrangement, applying “polluter pays” principle on WEEE producers with some suggestions on initial supports. The EEEA consultation response paper can be downloaded here.
