Fano Labs Awarded Gold and Grand Awards at the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2018

 

Fano Labs, an AI startup founded by Prof. Victor O.K. Li and his PhD student Dr Miles H.F. Wen, received Gold and Grand honours in the Smart Business category of the Hong Kong ICT Awards in March 2018. It was also the first Hong Kong start-up to be awarded funding by Horizons Ventures, the private investment arm of Li Ka Shing. The key technology used in its business is deep learning algorithms that can recognise different languages and dialects even when the languages are mixed, such as combining Cantonese and English in one sentence. It can deal with spoken and written languages (such as text messages) and recognise vocal tones such as when the speaker is angry. These capabilities are useful for quality and compliance assurance and training, as well as customer service.

AI-WiSe Fellowship Opportunity Available!
We are offering the AI-WiSe Fellowship opportunity to those who are passionate about interdisciplinary research. Selected fellows will gain hands-on interdisciplinary research experience by contributing to some of our current projects, and can spend up to three months in HKU for a taste of one of the best academic environments in China. One of the exciting projects the fellows may be working on involves the application of big data and AI on Air Pollution Monitoring and Health Management.
