During the IEEE International Conference on Big Data held in Seattle from 10 - 13 December 2018, Prof. Victor O.K. Li, together with Dr. Jacqueline C.K. Lam, Prof. Mihaela van der Schaar, and Prof. Ingemar J. Cox, chaired a workshop titled “Big Data and AI for Air Quality Estimation, Forecasting, and Health Advice”. In this workshop, the use of big data and AI technologies to overcome the limited number of air quality monitoring stations for collecting complex, heterogeneous, high-resolution, urban data was discussed. These collected data may be used to estimate and forecast air quality, enable the generation of personalized alert and advice to improve the health and well-being of individual citizens, and create new business opportunities for the IT and healthcare industry. This workshop brought together top academic and industrial researchers from around the world to tackle this important problem. This workshop appealed to those whose research focus was related to the deployment of big data and AI technologies to estimate/predict air quality, techniques to cleanse noisy/erroneous data and to fill in missing data, air pollution real-time visualization, air pollution related health and route advisory system, and case studies of actual deployment of air quality monitoring and health advisory systems.
Prof. Victor OK Li gave Keynote Speech entitled, “AI to Advance Well-being and Society” at the Hong Kong International Artificial Intelligence Summit, Co-organized by Tsinghua University and the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Nov 2018.
